BTECs are a level 2 qualification, which are equivalent to an A-C grade at GCSE level. They allow students to take responsibility for their own learning and develop skills, which are essential for the workplace. BTEC Firsts give students the opportunity to progress into further study (including university), apprenticeships and the workplace

All BTEC First Awards follow the same structure of 120 GLH (guided Learning Hours) = 1 GCSE
• Core Units (60 GLH) this is made up of two units one of these is externally assessed through an exam which is 1 hour long
• Optional units (60 GLH) usually two units (30 GLH), however in ICT there is an option to complete one unit worth 60 GL
